Pazham Pori (Banana Bajiya)

I made this recipe for my hubby with hot hot tea... I agree its high on calories but you can try it once... Its popular all over kerala... specially at small tea stalls that are found all over the village...and ha! you will find them in train while your journey to kerala... but of course the one you make will be the best...

Ingredients:

  1. Plantains  --  2-3 as per your requirement.(Available in all South Indian stores)
  2. Maida/All Purpose  --  1 cup
  3. Rice Flour  --  1/2 cup
  4. Turmeric Powder  --  a pinch
  5. Salt   --  a pinch
  6. Powdered Sugar  --  2 tsp.
  7. Oil to fry
Method:
  • Peel off the plantains and cut into two halfs and then slice them into 1 inch thick.
  • Mix the ingredients from 2 to 6 into slightly thick consistency and make a fine batter.
  • Heat oil in a deep bottom kadai. To check if the oil is correctly hot just drop a little batter in the kadai the batter should soon float on top of the oil.
  • Now take each slice dip into the batter and then slide slowly and carefully into the oil.
  • Fry in medium heat till a slight golden brown colour.
  • Serve hot.
