Puran Poli

Puran Poli is a very traditional recipe all over India usually prepared during festive seasons. In south its called Poli in which we stuff the mixture of dal, jaggery and some flavors and roll them round and round and finally toast it using lots of oozing ghee.
Its such a lovely simple recipe that you can prepare for breakfast or for lunch or dinner or any brunch! so lets go for the recipe isn't it?

Ingredients:

  1. All Purpose flour  --  2 cups
  2. Whole Wheat flour  --  2 cups
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Water to make the dough
  5. Oil about 2 tsp to make soft dough
Method:
  • Make the smooth dough mixing all ingredients together and then keep aside.
Filling:
  1. Cooked Channa Dal  --  1 cup
  2. Jagger  --  1 cup crushed
  3. Cardamom Pods  --  2-3
  4. Ghee  --  2 tablespoon.

Method:
  • In a deep heavy kadai add jaggery and then add about 1/2 cup water. Stir it continuously till it melts.
  • Now after the jaggery had melt completely add the cooked smashed channa dal and then stir in nicely.
  • Now add powdered cardamom powder and mix nicely till the dal mixture leaves the sides.
  • Add the ghee and then mix it once again nicely.
Puran Poli Recipe:
  • Now lets make the puran poli.
  • Take a quite a big amout of dough and make a nice ball.
  • Roll the dough using a rolling pin.
  • Add the channa dal mixture in the middle of the rolled dough and then again seal it and roll it once again.
  • Now make the poli just like you make chapatis and add generous amount of ghee on both the sides of the poli and serve hot!
  • You can keep this poli for some days and use it. This is an apt recipe when you travel for several days.
  • So just make it fast store it and give it to your kids in their lunch boxes.
